Synopsis

All those who set foot on this magnificent island fall under its spell. Award-winning wildlife filmmaker, Harold Arsenault, is enchanted by Anticosti and has spent over a year working on this film about the island's natural history; a tale intimately tied to the arrival of one particular man. In 1895, Henri Menier, a wealthy French businessman purchased the island, thus becoming one of the greatest landowners of his time. His ultimate goal was to create a hunting and fishing paradise and to this end, he added a number of species to those already inhabiting his island. Little could he know that the 220 white-tailed deer he released would bring about a dramatic change in Anticosti's ecosystems.

This film documents the natural history of Anticosti Island in all its splendour. The camera takes us on an amazing journey through steep canyons to mighty waterfalls; it skims rivers and dips below the surface to approach eel and salmon, follows osprey as they plunge for prey, and leads us deep into the forest to observe the behaviour of the island's animals as they roam freely in the wild. Discover this magical place with its breathtaking scenery and, like all visitors to Anticosti Island, you too will inevitably fall under its spell.

Le cinéaste animalier Harold Arsenault y a passé plus d'un an pour réaliser un documentaire sur son histoire naturelle; une histoire dont la destinée est intimement liée à l'arrivée d'un homme. En 1895, Henri Menier, un riche homme d'affaires français achète l'Île d'Anticosti et devient l'un des plus grands propriétaires terriens de l'époque. Son but était de faire de l'île un paradis de chasse et de pêche. Dans cet esprit, il introduit sur son île plusieurs nouvelles espèces animales dont le cerf de Virginie; une espèce qui aura un impact extraordinaire sur les écosystèmes de l'île.

Ce film vous invite à découvrir cette histoire, à observer intimement la faune et la flore de l'île dans les paysages uniques d'Anticosti.
