Synopsis

It starts with an accident. Henry (Zach Braff) makes a wrong turn and crashes into Nathalie (Isabelle Blais). In a fit of panic, and over the legal limit, he cuts and runs, leaving Nathalie lying in the street, unconscious, bleeding and eight months pregnant. She wakes up in the hospital only to find her bright future destroyed and the baby she is still carrying, dead. Her husband, Michel (Patrick Labbé) is too unnerved and emotionally bereft to deal with the tragedy. As her life unravels, she stumbles across Henry – who has been searching for his victim. Unaware of what he has done, Nathalie sees him as an unlikely guardian angel, everything Michel is not – compassionate, charming and a little crazy. She finds a welcome relief in the tall, rumpled stranger that seems only too willing to offer her refuge. But Henry has his own problems. His past misdeeds are catching up, and he soon discovers that the police are steadily closing in. The inevitable collision will force both Henry and Nathalie to confront loss, labour and life, and to ultimately decide whether the cost of living is worth the price.

Tout commença par un accident. Une nuit d’hiver, Henry (Zach Braff) tourne brusquement dans une rue et percute violemment Nathalie (isabelle Blais). Paniqué et en état d’ébriété, il prend la fuite, tandis que Nathalie, enceinte de huit mois, gît dans la rue. Lorsqu’elle se réveille à l’hôpital, c’est le choc : son avenir radieux a tourné au cauchemar. Le bébé qu’elle porte toujours en elle est mort. Son mari, Michel (Patrick Labbé), est totalement atone, il n’arrive absolument pas à faire face à cette tragédie. Tandis que tout s’effondre autour d’elle, Nathalie tombe sur Henry, déterminé de son côté à retrouver sa victime. Loin de se douter qu’elle a affaire à son agresseur, Nathalie le perçoit comme un ange gardien. Il est tout le contraire de Michel : Henry est attentionné, charmant et un peu dingue. Elle se refugie auprès de cet inconnu, cet homme un peu bohême, trop heureux de son côté de lui offrir le réconfort dont elle a besoin. Mais Henry n’est pas tiré d’affaire : son passé trouble le rattrape, et il découvre vite qu’il est dans le collimateur de la police. La confrontation entre Henri et Nathalie est inévitable et les obligera à affronter le deuil, l’accouchement de l’enfant mort-né et à affronter la vie, tout simplement… avant de pouvoir juger si, en bout de course, le prix à payer était justifié.
